In terms of consumption, Asia consumes 54% of shoes, followed by Europe and North America with 14.8%. China is an important producer, and the proportion of footwear exports exceeds 70%

In 2019, India produced 2.6 billion pairs, accounting for 10.7%. Vietnam and Indonesia are relatively close in production, ranking third and fourth respectively.


Brazil ranks fifth and is the world's largest non-Asian footwear producer. In 2019, the country's shoe production was 908 million pairs. Mexico is another non-Asian country in the top ten, producing 251 million pairs, accounting for 1% of the global total. Italy surpassed Thailand and once again regained the position of the top 10 shoe-producing countries.
